Summary

Rationale for the ICS-ULisboa Strategic Planning : An emerging focus of Sustainable Futures research is on urbanisation processes. Cities are critical to climate action and global sustainability and face challenges in a changing environment. Effective strategies are needed to address issues ranging from population concentration to environmental pressures. While urban areas play a central role, their future is uncertain and presents different scenarios with implications for both mitigation and adaptation efforts. In this context, the governance dimensions of sustainable development are gaining importance, taking into account socio-spatial inequalities, population vulnerability and social exclusion. Urban contexts serve as research hubs for creativity, innovative governance, citizen participation, resilience, protest and mobilisation. They are sites for experimenting with democratic innovations, nature-based solutions, new strategies and plans, including the monitoring and evaluation of policies on issues as diverse as food, mobility, housing, urban rehabilitation and regeneration, without neglecting the evaluation of participatory mechanisms for inclusive citizenship. Researchers are increasingly called upon to identify the common patterns, variations and factors that influence participatory policy-making, social mobilisation and protest, and multi-scale and innovative forms of urban governance. They are also increasingly called upon to undertake multilevel and global comparative South-North research. Researchers often contribute to the formulation of public policies in key areas that affect urbanization processes. Required Scientific Profile : In addition to a demonstrated interest in the topic, the PhD Researcher to be recruited should have: a) a PhD in Geography or related areas; b) a relevant CV in the field of Sustainable Futures with an emphasis on urbanization processes and a proven international track record (e.g. international collaborations, a repertoire of publications in top quality journals and or book publications, participation in research networks, experience in project-based research and outreach activities); c) solid methodological training, in both quantitative and qualitative methods, with competent experience of participatory methodologies, involving contributions from multiple stakeholders; d) proven experience in initiating innovative, cutting-edge, research strands and topics; e) proven experience in coordinating and teaching post-graduate courses; f) a track record in highly competitive funding, both at an international and national levels; g) experience in coordinating teams; and h) preferable experience in outlining and co-developing recommendations to decision-makers in both the private and public sectors at multiple scales. Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

9,0
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
