Rationale for the ICS-ULisboa Strategic Planning: In the coming years, socio-psychological research on intergroup relations and social inequality will make a decisive scientific and societal contribution to the strategic planning of the ICS-ULisboa.From a scientific perspective, it is crucial to strengthen the ICS-ULisboa team with a Principal Researcher in this area to gain insights into the core aspects of human behavior and social dynamics, i.e. the socio-cognitive, motivational, and behavioral processes that shape social interactions, and to provide a solid theoretical basis for addressing social issues. Furthermore, conducting foundational studies of social inequalities from a social psychological perspective is important to understand the socio-historical-psychological processes within societies that maintain and reinforce inequalities and their consequences. It is crucial to examine individual, group and societal factors that contribute to inter-group tensions and conflicts. This is a central aspect of addressing pressing global issues such as the motivation to engage in armed conflict and the micro- and macro-level factors that cause the increasing threat to the stability of democratic societies. At the societal level, research in this area has profound implications for ICS-ULisboa, which formulates science-based, innovative and outreach public policies to promote social harmony, equality, and justice. By identifying factors that foster prejudice, discrimination, and societal inequalities, and understanding their interaction with elements that contribute to physical and symbolic intergroup conflict on a global scale, researchers can develop policies to promote inclusion, reduce prejudice and foster positive intergroup relations. This research is of paramount importance to policy makers, educators and practitioners seeking to create more equitable and inclusive societies. The insights gained are crucial for developing strategies that target the root causes of inequality and contribute to building a more just and cohesive society. In summary, hiring a Principal Researcher specialized in the scientific field of social psychology related to intergroup relations and social inequalities is not only important to drive the scientific impact of ICS-ULisboa strategic planning in this area, but also has the potential to fulfill ICS-ULisboa social mission of contributing to positive social change. This researcher will play a central role in developing policies, interventions and practices that promote social justice and equity and support ICS-ULisboa commitment to positive social change in the current global landscape.??????? Tasks to be assigned : The Principal Researcher to be recruited will carry out activities in the field of social psychology of intergroup relations and social inequalities within the Inclusion and Vulnerabilities Thematic Line. These activities include a) designing research programs and scientific development; b) coordinating research teams and leading the implementation of projects in research and scientific and technological development; c) conducting training activities in scientific research methods and development in this field; d) supervising master’s and PhD students; e) proposing outreach interventions based on results obtained in a research project conducted in this scientific domain.
