Rationale for the ICS-ULisboa Strategic Planning : ICS-ULisboa has long been developing studies on the relationship between processes of personal ontogeny and the movement of people in contemporary contexts . In particular, there is a perceived need to further the study of the urban integration in Europe of populations from Portuguese post-colonial contexts . This approach intersects, on the one hand, with studies on migration and vulnerability in urban peripheries and, on the other hand, with the contemporary challenges to intergenerational solidarity that have been emerging. In addition, given the challenges posed by gentrification in Portuguese cities, ICS-ULisboa has been developing research in the area of access to housing and environments of care. The ethnography of urban corporealities raises concerns about the interface between mobility and vulnerability. Social Anthropology’s main contribution to the study of these issues focuses on the qualitative dimension, specifically the way in which ethnographic research allows us to explore categories of action and subjectivity. The development of collaborative ethnographic methods has been central to the link between basic research and the mobilization of outreach activities. The hiring of an Assistant Researcher in this area of study will guarantee the consolidation of ethnographic studies on the future of cities, which have come to characterize ICS-ULisboa’ Thematic Line Sustainability . This will help to maximize the crossover between research registered in the RG Diversities: Ethnographies in the Contemporary World and a specific contribution to the understanding of the relationship between urban studies and issues of intergenerational solidarity, dealt with in the Thematic Line Inclusion and Vulnerability . Furthermore, in view of the retirement in 2024 of one of the senior members of the team of the RG ‘Diversities’, there is an urgent need to ensure the continuity of research-based teaching in the area of ethnographic methodologies, as this has proved central to several postgraduate programs at ICS-ULisboa. Required Scientific Profile : In addition to a demonstrated interest in the topic, the PhD Researcher to be recruited should have: a) a PhD in Anthropology; b) a relevant CV in the field of Social Anthropology, with particular emphasis on internationalization (e.g. international collaborations, a repertoire of publications in international journals and or book publications, participation in research networks, experience in project-based research and outreach activities); c) a solid methodological training, namely in carrying out a diverse panoply of fieldwork techniques, including experimental and collaborative ethnography in urban contexts; d) proven experience in initiating innovative, cutting-edge, research strands and topics; e) proven experience in coordinating and teaching post-graduate courses in Social Anthropology and ethnographic methods; f) a track record in highly competitive funding, both at an international and national levels; g) experience in coordinating teams, and supervision of PhD thesis; h) experience in the area of outreach activities; and i) contribution to national and international scientific associations. ???????Tasks to be assigned : The Assistant Researcher to be recruited will carry out activities in the field of Social Anthropology. These activities include a) designing research projects for national and international calls; b) coordinating research teams and leading the implementation of projects in research and scientific and technological development; c) conducting training activities in scientific research methods and development in this field, namely through the contribution to the Workshop in Ethnography that integrates RG Diversities; d) supervising Masters and PhD students in ICS-ULisboa , namely in the PhD program in Anthropology, in the Master Degree in Brazilian Studies, and/or in the upcoming international post-graduate course Multiple Lives: new trends in ethnography ; e) proposing outreach interventions based on results obtained in a research project conducted in this scientific domain and integrating the current plans for outreach in ethnographic-led areas; f) contributing to academic management at ICS-ULisboa , namely by supporting our PhD program in Anthropology through the development of research-led teaching in the area of ethnographic research.
