Job description:The selected candidate is expected to perform and develop scientific activities as: Team coordination: To coordinate a research team in Developmental Biology and Regenerative Biology effectively, the primary focus should be on ensuring that the team´s efforts are both collaborative and targeted towards the most promising areas of research. This involves identifying synergies among team members´ expertise and guiding the team towards achieving shared goals. Training capacities: Support for the training of undergraduates is crucial for nurturing the next generation of scientists. This could involve the development of a curriculum that is both comprehensive and reflective of the latest advancements in the field. Mentoring students and overseeing their undergraduate research projects are key responsibilities that require a commitment to student growth and learning. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their future careers. Training Master and PhD students involves providing them with expert guidance on their research projects. This includes ensuring that they have a strong foundation in the scientific method, as well as the specific knowledge and skills relevant to their area of study. The aim is to prepare these students for successful careers in academia or industry by providing them with a rigorous and supportive training environment. Research funding support: Obtaining external funding is essential for the sustainability of the research program. This requires writing compelling grant proposals, networking with potential funders, and managing the budget efficiently. Success in this area demonstrates the candidate´s ability to secure the resources necessary for cutting-edge research. Internationalization: Participation in institutional activities is important for promoting scientific growth and engaging with the broader community. This could include delivering public lectures, organizing seminars, and participating in community engagement projects. These activities help to disseminate scientific knowledge and foster a culture of curiosity and learning. Coordination: Coordinating research infrastructures that involves ensuring that the team has access to the latest technologies and resources. This is critical for conducting high-quality research and staying at the forefront of developments in Developmental Biology and Regenerative Biology. Scientific Profile:The ideal candidate for this role should possess:A Ph.D. in Developmental Biology, Neurobiology, Immunology, or a related field.An international experience in Developmental Biology and Regenerative Biology, with a proven track record of contributing to novel medical approaches, with more than 15 years of independent leadership of a research team.Post-doctoral experience in a prestigious international laboratory or institution is highly desirable, which provides a deep understanding of the cutting-edge techniques and methodologies in the field.An extensive background in spinal cord injury research, including understanding the molecular pathways and cellular behaviors that contribute to neural regeneration and repair.A strong foundation in the study of cellular aging and its implications for tissue regeneration, including the manipulation of senescent cells to promote healing processes.Expertise in the interplay between the immune system and regenerative processes, particularly how immune cells can influence or be influenced by regeneration in the spinal cord.Demonstrated success in writing and securing competitive funding from national and international funding agencies. A robust portfolio of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals that reflects a significant contribution to the field of regenerative medicine.Involvement in pioneering research projects that have pushed the boundaries of what is known about tissue regeneration and have potential translational or clinical applications. Rationale for hiring:The Institute of Histology and Developmental Biology is actively seeking to bolster its capabilities and impact within the field of Regenerative Medicine. Recognizing the transformative potential of regenerative therapies, the institute is committed to pioneering research that could lead to breakthroughs in the treatment of degenerative diseases, traumatic injuries, and congenital disorders. The new hire will serve as a catalyst for integrating diverse scientific disciplines, fostering an environment where ideas and methods from developmental biology, stem cell research, material science, and immunology coalesce to drive innovation. By bringing expertise in both fundamental and applied aspects of regenerative medicine, the candidate will bridge existing research efforts in molecular biology, histology, and clinical applications, thereby enhancing the translational potential of the institute’s research.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
