Job description:The area of vaccines is critical for the School of Medicine at a time where public disinformation is becoming rampant: it is important to enhance medical knowledge regarding scientific advances and public health outcomes.The selected candidate is expected to pursue scientific activities as:Team coordination: To coordinate a research team in Vaccinology, with a focus on ensuring the development of a collaborative environment including identifying synergies among team members´ expertise and all research groups in the institute, especially within immunity and infection. The principal researcher must be adept at fostering an environment that encourages innovative thinking and rigorous scientific investigation. Experience in knowledge transfer, including clinical trials is desirable.Training capacities: Support for the training of undergraduates is crucial for nurturing the next generation of scientists. This could involve the development of a curriculum that is both comprehensive and reflective of the latest advancements in the field. Mentoring students and overseeing their undergraduate research projects are key responsibilities that require a commitment to student growth and learning. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their future careers. Training Master and PhD students involves providing them with expert guidance on their research projects. This includes ensuring that they have a strong foundation in the scientific method, as well as the specific knowledge and skills relevant to their area of study. The aim is to prepare these students for successful careers in academia or industry by providing them with a rigorous and supportive training environment.Research funding support: Obtaining external funding is essential for the sustainability of the research program. This requires writing compelling grant proposals, networking with potential funders, and managing the budget efficiently. Success in this area demonstrates the principal researcher´s ability to secure the resources necessary for cutting-edge research.Internationalization: Experience in integrating international collaborations is highly desirable. Participation in institutional activities is important for promoting scientific growth and engaging with the broader community. This could include delivering public lectures, organizing seminars, and participating in community engagement projects. These activities help to disseminate scientific knowledge and foster a culture of curiosity and learning.Coordination: Coordinating research infrastructures that involves ensuring that the team has access to the latest technologies and resources. This is critical for conducting high-quality research and staying at the forefront of developments in Vaccinology. Scientific Profile:The ideal candidate for this role should possess:a PHD in Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, or related areas.An outstanding international experience within the field of vaccinology,A proven track record of contributing to novel medical approaches,Evidence of senior author publications in the most selective journals.Demonstrated success in writing and securing competitive funding from national and international funding agencies, namely the La Caixa Foundation, Gates Foundation, or equivalent.A robust portfolio of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals that reflects a significant contribution to the field.Involvement in pioneering research projects that have pushed the boundaries of the field and have demonstrated potential for translational or clinical applications. Rationale for hiring:The Faculty of Medicine is actively seeking to establish an international reputation in Vaccinology, strengthening a key area for medical education, interaction with clinical research, and potential translatability.
