The relationship between humans and farm animals, as well as pets, is a complex and multifaceted issue that raises significant ethical concerns. The way in which we interact with these animals has a profound impact on food systems and the role of pets in modern societies. As a result, scientific research in this area has become increasingly important, with a particular focus on animal behavior and its translation into animal welfare and ethical principles. This research is crucial to the field of veterinary and animal science, and as such, it is essential to hire a professor who is actively engaged in research on both animal behavior and welfare, as well as their ethical implications. This professor will play a vital role in reinforcing the research conducted at the Animal Behavior and Welfare Lab of CIISA and will contribute to the formation of veterinary and animal science graduates, Master and PhD students. By doing so, we can ensure that future generations of professionals in these fields are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to address the ethical challenges facing our relationship with animals.The ideal candidate for the professor position is expected to possess skills and expertise in integrating international and national research consortia, as well as leading research tasks and projects on animal behaviour and welfare. Additionally, the candidate should be able to effectively supervise both PhD students and Post-Docs, contributing to the strengthening of the welfare research at CIISA and the Green Animal Production of AL4AnimalS Associate Llab. Apart from research responsibilities, the professor will also be involved in teaching animal behavior, welfare, and bioethics topics. It is highly desirable for the professor to have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate the animal welfare and bioethical issues with a wider audience. Overall, the professor is expected to play a pivotal role in driving research, teaching, and communication efforts related to animal welfare and bioethical issues, contributing to the development of a more compassionate and sustainable society.
